Dans unit 


I was asked by my tutor dan to choose a particular skill within my chosen profession of the animation work profession. Ideally a skill in which i'm not very well inform of and and try to improve my understanding within that particular area.

These are the option to my understanding that are very common place within the animation industry

3d character modelling
modelling humans or animals computer mesh characters with the programs maya of 3d Studio Max

3d set modeler

the building of set prop and any other pices with in the scene

environmental designer

the building of organic models and sets should as trees and mountains

Rigging

Building digital skeleton within computer mesh figures to allow them to be animated

Compositor

Complying all the foot and render from animation pipe line and pieces them all tougher and working with lighting and spacial effects .

I feel that the best thing to gain as a new skill would be to learn how to rigging mesh character in the program maya, so that the model would be able to be animated. I feel that this skill with help me to firstly to help me be more confident within maya and also help with my employability in the industry.



What would be the best way to attach this problem accordantly to learn how to rig in maya ?


I decided to try an make a basic worm like creature and rigging and with the skin bind tool


I first started with a basic sphere with in maya



I stretch the sphere out to an make a worm like shape.

























Then by using the joint tool with in maya  I put a spine in to the centre of the worm. I then bind the mess to the spine that I just created






FRIST PROBLEM I HAVE COME ACROSS 


For some reason the spine i had just made was going throw the body of the worm





I realised i didn't have enough faces on the model to allow it to bend properly so I simply smoothed the model to add extra faces on to it,

I then repeated the process again 



The mesh started

It was suggested by my tutor Dan for my research to look on a site called digitalis tutors. Digital tutors is a online service the provides creative industry tutorials should maya nuke and Adobe photo and many more.


I then found a tutorials and followed step by step   

today we will be working on IK handle

learning about ik handles

What are IK

IK handle are joint control witch allow you to move and specific part of your 3d model such as an nee joint and follow




The frist problem that I had encountered was that the toe joint when i parented the reverse foot lock to the to the foot the moves in the apostatise direction of where i was moving the







I then realised that I'd parented the foot the wrong way around to the reverse


















My tutor Dan suggested that because from my short film i was going to rig an animated money in maya it would be wise to rig a already model  



I downloaded a fished model of a monkey I then started defining my legs joints



I then set up a reveres foot lock on the back ball of the monkey foot. this allow to pick out the bottom part of the foot.


I then stetted up the IK handle with a reverse foot lock




I then apply foot control on to the feet and added set driven keys to the feet the allow the foot the follow throw.

Here is an example  of the fault i made






 After that I applied a foot roll mode on the foot roll  by using a cures circle to and appling a set driven key to the foot control. This will allow me to restraints to the foot to stop the from going out of control.
   

I then tested the rool to





rigging the spine


Within the tutorial it say to never have the spine in a strait line  





I then suddenly realise i didn't have theses setting on










I then complied  cluster the the skine that i have already made 





I then place upper and lower control on to the body of the monkey using nurb shapes 










i then made a back neck control with nurds same as the upper and lower torso. this will allow me to move the back control so i can bend the monkey.

I then constraint the back control I just made to a cluster   


 I then move the back control out for easy asses. this will help me bend the monkey down would like as if he picking something up.

i then created a hip tool using a nurbs so that it will be easy for me to swing the hips whiles i"m animating






i then made a box on the rist of the monkey using nurbs and began to make the joint for the finger of the hands 





            I then attack the the finger to the joint by parenting them in to a central point so that they can stay in the same place




Heres is a basic test of the finger joints 





I then made a set driven key for my rist control for the cub i made earlier

I then made a global controls and the bottom of the monkey. By doing this i will be able to move the whole monkey rig as one object  and not effects any of the model or rig

 I then bind the skin to the mesh. by doing this it will the mess will attach it self on the the rig and allow me to move the monkey around.















found major problem for some reason when i mover specific part of of the monkey rig its distort the rest of the model.





How I resolve this

I found out that i had most of the distortion from the head of the monkey.

As a result of this i went on to the component editor and and when on to vertexes mode and related all the vertexes on the head.









I then change the value  on any other foreign column that doesn't relate to the head joint to a value of zero. by doing this it will make my life easer when I'm moving sperific part of the character rigg.

As a result of this i started to use the weight paint brush with in maya. i found this a lot quicker then doing the other way


I painted the head so that when i moved the arm the ears or any other paint of the monkey model doesn't   move move.







I then abandon using the components editor becuase i was imform that its the weight possible way to paint weight    














I feel that throughout out this project i have learnt many new skill

I learnt how to constraint joint to serrate objects

I have leant how to bind mess to a ik or fk rig

i have also learnt how to paint weight in my


After doing this i feel more confidence in maya rigging and i feel that this will really benefit   me in my feature work. i found this very stimulating if i had this chances to this again i would be more then willing to. i've started to enjoy rigging with in maya
